  • Charity Concert - Next Tuesday!

  • On Tuesday February 26 at 7:30pm in the Royal Spa Centre, Leamington Spa, Warwick University Big and Brass Band are holding an evening concert for Charity. All profits from the concert will be split between Coventry Mind and the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. It will be a wonderful evening of both Jazz and Brass music. We hope to see many people there.   • Musical Directors 2008

  • The Musical Directors (MDs) for the year 2008 were elected at our annual MD auditions on Thursday 8 November 2007. The elected MDs are:

  • Big Band win international Alma Jazz Festival Big Band competition

  • The University of Warwick Big Band blasted away other Big Bands at this year's annual Alma Jazz Festival in Bologna, the jazz capital of Italy.

    The festival, held between the 20-23rd September, welcomed 9 Big Bands from across Europe and South America for four days full of musical spectacle culminating in a competition on the final night. The University of Warwick Big Band were selected to represent Britain in this high profile festival, and are very proud to have secured the coveted prize of "Best Big Band" with fantastic performances throughout the four days, and the "energy and enthusiasm" of the band and their playing were what won them the final competition.

    A large trophy has been received and will be displayed in the Music Centre within the University shortly. We have received many messages of congratulations from all over the University as well as from bands across the world. This has been a significant achievement for us, contributing to our pride in calling ourselves an "International Award-Winning Big Band".

  • Alma Jazz Festival, Italy - Sept 07

  • The Big Band is delighted and honoured to have been invited to play at the Alma Jazz Festival in Bologna, north Italy. The festival takes place from Thursday 20th to Sunday 23rd September, and Big Band will be playing at least two gigs each day.

    This area is well known for its beauty and culture, and we hope to have a little spare to appreciate it; otherwise, we will make it mandatory to sample the traditional cuisine of the area, SPAGHETTI BOLOGNAISE.

  • Barcelona Tour 2007

  • The Big Band has recently returned from a fantastic tour of Barcelona, Spain, where a week was spent enjoying the company and jazz surrounding the Big Band. The band visited a couple of jazz clubs during their stay and heard a variety of music including some salsa and Latin music.

    There was also plenty of time for sightseeing and the Gaudi architecture proved stunning, as well as visits to the Dali museum, beaches and a water park.

    The band thoroughly enjoyed their tour, and we hope Barcelona enjoyed having us too...! We are looking forward to our second summer tour to the Alma Jazz Festival in bologna, Italy in September.
